Anti-Piracy Group Throws in the Towel, Pirates Walk Free

Following several legal setbacks, a Danish anti-piracy group which represents the music and movie industry, has announced that it will stop going after illegal file-sharers. The outfit came to this decision after it lost several court cases against alleged copyright infringers.

AMD Launches 125W Phenom II X4 965 CPU

August marked the launch of AMD’s current flagship desktop processor, the Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition. Today, we have a fresh revision of this CPU that brings some new features to the table. Firefox and Chrome updates spike stability bugs

Firefox 3.5.5, which comes only a week after the release of 3.5.4, addressed a start-up crash problem and crashes in the GIF image decoder of the open source browser, among other bugs (as explained here). The flaws create a possible means to crash browser with malformed code on websites but their main importance is as an irritation that impairs users ability to surf the web without irksome browser crashes.

Windows 7 tops Vista software sales, lags behind in hardware

Microsoft’s heavily hyped Windows 7 debut was a success for the Redmond, Wash., company in terms of boxed software, which saw a 234 percent increase over Vista, though PC hardware sales slowed.

According to the NPD Group, the first few days of Windows 7 sales far exceeded that of Windows Vista. Revenue came in 82 percent higher as well, a number lower than the sales increase due to early discounts and a lack of promotional activity for the operating system’s ‘Ultimate’ version.
